Things couldn’t be brighter for our children. Growing amidst far better exposure, development facilities (such as easy access to swimming pools, cricket academics, shooting ranges), world-class school infrastructure, easy access to higher education opportunities, exploding professional opportunities, books, Internet, coaching etc. besides more qualified parents, relatively prosperous homes and the rising Asian century in a rapidly globalizing world, this second decade seems to have ushered us into our best of times. World over the exploding Indian middle-class is the toast of good times!

| Under the lens |
All is not well, however, within our homes. The not-so-subtle changes in ice-age-old institutions such as family, marriage and governance have meant that parenting was never more challenging. To top it, the long established division of role between ‘schools’ and family and community with respect to education of the children stands fairly ambiguous.
Worse, we, the parents, are waiting as if the educational context for our children will self-correct and automatically realign to the changed socio-economic conditions. Of course, it won’t. We will have to work at re-negotiating the division of responsibility and resources between schools and homes for most contemporary education for our children. In the process, we must also factor in the metamorphosised contours of career and living into the school curriculum, pedagogy, teacher’s profiles and infrastructure. |

| The conference |
While the ‘Excellence in education’ Conference at IIT Delhi is the third in the annual series, the parent’s workshops in the conference are being held for the first time. Interactions with several hundreds of school leaders over the past couple of years clearly points out to the lack of adequate quality educational support at home to children and effective involvement of parents in galvanizing innovations in schools.
The workshop sessions on ‘Parenting – By Design’ are expected to chart-out a new beginning in guaranteeing world-class educational context for every child. As the title suggests, the workshops will explore the entire context of education in a fast-emerging knowledge society and showcase specific tools and practices in transforming the quality of educational context at home. Giving parents far more control over the destiny of their children, with or without commensurate changes in the schools!
Hence IIT Delhi feel proud to invite you to these workshops which will take place between 02:00 PM and 06:00 P.M at IIT Delhi on 30th December, 2011.
